With input from countless Norwalk kids over many years on how they’d like to spend their summer, the Carver Center crafted a summer day-camp program this year that delivers just what they’re looking for all week long: irresistible, kid-approved learning opportunities, hands-on involvement and unique experiences that include science, travel, art, sports, history, nature and so much more.

Almost 500 kids are involved in one or more programs this summer from day trips to brushing-up on learning and leadership skills to sports and good fellowship in between.

From days enjoyed at the beaches, museums, zoos, and Six Flags to journeys to Connecticut’s orchards, Thimble Islands, and even NYC’s NBC studio, there is no limit to the imagination exercised in planning fun and discovery for this year’s summer camp.

Utilizing our indoor and outdoor basketball courts (three courts total), with three games usually playing simultaneously, boys and girls are either playing, managing the events or in the stands cheering. College students assist local coaches and trainers with skills building and conditioning. The Summer Run League runs three days per week and the Echo League runs four days a week. Kids compete in the leagues and also have the opportunity to compete in Free Throw and Three Point contests. Kids work alongside staff to recruit, advertise and plan the events, which is how the majority of Norwalk youth know about it. There are surprise guest speakers like Ex-NBA players Wes (Wesley) Matthews, Sr. and Walter Luckett. Every Friday a DJ increases the volume and excitement. An All Star Team is selected from players to compete in the summer’s last game. These players are selected by staff, coaches and trainers based on their attendance and performance.

We even have a specific summer camp program called C.A.M.P (Computer Academic Motivational Program) for students transitioning from the 5th to 6th grade. This program has an emphasis on Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) and technology. In addition, educational outings are planned to reinforce learning.

To our youth, their parents, community leaders, our excellent staff, and to our donors, this summer's success is your doing. Thank you! If you are new to the Carver Center, Welcome! You are visiting a place that "builds lifetime achievers!"

Carver Testimonial:

"The Carver means fun and learning at the same time. Without Carver, I might not be passing each grade."
